His Holiness Pope Francis plans to visit Africa in November and confirmed he will travel to Central African Republic and later proceed to Uganda. In a response to an African priest in the Basilica of St.Lateran who asked the Pope when he would travel to Africa he responded “God willing, I will be in Africa in November. In the Central African Republic first, and then Uganda” The Pope also noted that that the trip would come after the 50th annivesary of the Uganda Martyrs though a little ‘too late’.
His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni together with First Lady Janet Museveni paid a courtesy visit to the Pope on 27th October at the Papal building in Caticano where they talked at length how the Church has developed education in Uganda and also formally invited the Pope to the Uganda.
News of the Pope’s confirmed visit has left many Ugandans excited as he will be the third Pope to visit the country after the late Pope Paul VI visited Uganda in 1969 and Pope John Paul II in 1993.
The Catholic Church in Uganda recently came out with a statement regarding the Pope’s visit as it starts its preparations for His Holiness’ visit to the country.
