HOIDERA Youths Roll Out the Welcome Mat to New Students: A Celebration of Unity and Growth

On the 14th of September 2024, the vibrant HOIDERA Youth gathered once again at Makerere University to warmly welcome new students from different Universities, where 45 students were registered into HOIDERA Family. This event marked a continuation of a tradition that began last year, where students from Hoima Diocese come together to form lasting bonds, guided by the values of faith, education, and unity. The occasion was filled with insightful talks, shared experiences, and a renewed sense of purpose.

HOIDERA, an association that unites members from Hoima Diocese, has always stood as a pillar of support for its members, offering guidance in both spiritual and academic matters. The event was a reflection of this commitment, providing a platform for new students to feel at home while receiving valuable insights on how to navigate their academic journeys.

The highlight of the event was a powerful talk by Ms. Gorret Tumusiime, a dedicated member of HOIDERA and who serves as Assistant Admin HOIDERA Family shared with the students her knowledge on managing academic affairs. Drawing from her own experiences, Ms. Gorret spoke passionately about the importance of organization (elaborating different groups in HOIDERA like Bereavement Fund, HOIDERA Gals group, HOIDERA Sacco, HOIDERA Men, Small Christian Communities), and discipline in achieving academic success.

“University life is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming,” she began. “The key is to have a clear plan. Prioritize your tasks, manage your time wisely, and never underestimate the power of self-discipline.

Ms. Gorret also stressed the importance of balance, encouraging the students to make time for rest and social activities without losing focus on their academic goals. Her practical advice resonated deeply with the attendees, many of whom were just beginning their university journeys and grappling with new responsibilities.

Following Ms. Gorret’s address, Mr. Emmanuel Ssekitende took the stage to speak on the value of HOIDERA in the lives of students. His message was clear: HOIDERA is not just an association, but a lifeline for students navigating university life.

“Being part of HOIDERA means you’re never alone,” Mr. Emmanuel said, his words filled with warmth and conviction. “This association offers you a network of support—whether it’s spiritual, emotional, or academic. It’s a place where you can grow, find mentorship, and become the best version of yourself.”

Mr. Emmanuel went on to explain how HOIDERA provides various opportunities for students, from leadership roles within the association to community service initiatives that enrich the lives of its members. He urged the new students to actively engage with the association and tap into its resources, emphasizing that the relationships they form here would extend far beyond their university years.

As the event progressed, the new students introduced themselves, shared their hopes for the future, and expressed excitement about being part of such a close-knit community. The event concluded with a call to action from the youth leaders, who encouraged the students to seize the opportunities ahead of them. The camaraderie and unity in the room were palpable, reinforcing the essence of HOIDERA as a family that supports and uplifts its members.

The HOIDERA Association continues to serve as a beacon of hope, connection, and empowerment for students from Hoima Diocese, ensuring that each member finds their path and thrives in all aspects of their lives.
