St. Martin De Porres Institute of Health Sciences Munteme is a Catholic founded Institute offering training for better health care. It was started by Fr. Karl Hartl (now lives in Germany) and the late Fr. Charles Nkende in 1982.
The ceremony combined all past years of completion with different sets of graduates with an award of Certificate of Medical Laboratory techniques of Uganda Allied Health Examination Board (UAHEB) — from year of entry 2007/2008 when the programme was initiated up to 2020/2021 in take.
The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Honorable Minister of State for Public Service, Grace Mary Mugasa. and function started with mass led by the Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo, the Ordinary of Hoima Diocese
The bishop noted that, “we all received equal opportunities of a talent each, but the difference in results that we bring forth is largely dependent on personal efforts and the sense of responsibility.” Bishop Kirabo cited the example given by Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala during a graduation ceremony speech.
Cardinal Wamala challenged the graduate that; “as for me I will not thank you now, but I will congratulate you because the journey was long—however, I will have to wait and see what you will do. Until then I will thank you for whatever
good you will have done.”
Out of his experience as both student and lecturer, Bishop Kirabo challenged continuing students by citing two categories of learners; “the lousy” and “the serious learners.” Lousy students think there is always time ahead so, one can at the moment slumber, dodge lectures, drink and make merry whereas the serious group will always seen on time ahead, and in all they do there is no time to waste. Bishop encouraged everyone to prefer the latter category because they are few.
However according to the serving Director, Fr. Robert Ssegujja, the institute had a humble start in the Catechumenate buildings as a nursing aid school, but has through the years been transformed to offer these courses; Diploma and Certificate in Medical Laboratory Techniques, with the Main Campus at Munteme Parish and the auxiliary at Busiisi- Kigaragara, a suburb in Hoima City.
Board members led by the chairperson Fr. John Baptist Ssebitosi who encouraged all certificate holders to go back for the diploma course which has been introduced at St. Martin. He’ll be happy to receive them back.
