Uganda has managed to achieve a remarkable feat in transforming the education levels of its citizens over the years. This milestone has propelled the country to have more intellectuals and this is largely down to amount of devotion the Catholic Church has put in ensuring.
Since the missionaries set foot in Uganda the Catholic Church has built a remarkable number of learning institutions that have gone to base the foundation of education in the country. Guided and formed on the religious principles of the Church these learning institutions have produced prominent and law abiding citizens for our great nation. St. Mary’s college Kisubi is Catholic Church founded secondary that has been at the helm of the education sector producing top quality students for many generations as well as developing sport through their strong football and rugby ties.
The church has laid a foundation in terms of engineering the culture of sports into the students that pass through their institutions. Competitions like La Mennais’ are organised for students to participate in various sports activities ranging from soccer, rugby and cricket. This incentive is laid out to freshen the minds and keep their bodies in good shape to aid their academic prevalence.
The learning institutions set up are usually characterised with a link that usually has a basis of a junior school to a senior level of learning. Case study can be St.Savio Junior School that is linked with St. Mary’s college Kisubi and this helps maintain the status quo of a religious based education standard.
With other institutions in place it remains to see how far the education sector will grow but one fact that stands is the Catholic church in Uganda has contributed greatly to it.
